Jason Seiler

Here is my quick take on Jason Seiler for an art contest this month. He won first place at last year's convention.

Chris Tamlyn

I drawn Chris Tamlyn countless times as a result of having spent quite a few summers drawing caricatures next to him. To celebrate his posting on drawingboard.org I thought I'd try again. Here I tried him drawing in a muted minimalistic stlye. Still trying to get used to creating with shapes instead of lines, but its definately interesting. Hope you enjoy.

Boxing and Tom

I spent the first part of my day going to Chiba to get a picture for Tom. As you can see he has a very cool style. You can check out his awesome work at http://blog.tomgraffiti.com/.
I spent the evening watching Hideyuki Watanabe compete in the Eastern Japan Newcomer's Tournament. After winning his four fights he fought for the Championship tonight. He fought well but lost the decision ending up in 2nd place. I have really enjoyed following his career and look forward to watching him fight again in the future.

English Club

I was asked to design a t-shirt for the English club at the Junior high school I teach at. The English club wanted to have a uniform to wear at school functions. The students wanted me to do a group caricature. There are 16 people in all, the largest group I've drawn in to one picture. Above you can see the artwork and below you can see the club wearing the final product.

Guam Trip

My wife and I just came back from our trip to Guam. The water was warm and clear. The weather was great, and we had a chance to do some shopping and enjoy some of our favorite American restaurants. I still prefer Hawaii but we definately had a good time.

Tokyo trip: Part 2

Last Friday I watched Hideyuki Watanabe compete in the eastern Japan newcomer's tournment. This was his fourth victory in the tournament. If he wins his next fight he will be the super fly tournament champion. Here you can see him with his brother, Takayuki Watanabe, who is an awesome artist. I'm looking forward to his next fight!

Tokyo trip: Part 1

While in Tokyo I stopped by to check out Caricature Japan's Asakusa shop. It is in a great location, and is the coolest booth by far. I got a sketch, you can see below, by Yuta Honma, who you can see above. You can see more of his great stuff at http://hon-maburo.blogspot.com/
Caricature Japan was having an exhibition of themed artwork and doing live sketches for a nearby for a comedy film festival. Kage, Sousuke, and Shiori were all there. Here you can see Kage doing a nice sketch with some of the art in the background.
I was lucky enough to end up with my second sketch by Kage. A good art day! You can see more of his work at http://blog.livedoor.jp/donkage/. Good stuff.

I just noticed that I haven't posted anything since school started back up. I've been trying to improve my skills in Illustrator by re-creating some of my favorite art. This little piece is based off some the Zelda games for the DS. Very cool promo art.
